Hübinette Forms Samuel Hübinette Racing, Announces Two-Car Team for 2010

March 17th, 2010

Newport Coast, Calif. (SAMUEL HÜBINETTE RACING) — Two-time Formula DRIFT (FD) champion Samuel Hübinette is returning to the FD series with a new factory-backed Dodge team in 2010.
After six successful seasons with the NuFormz Mopar/BFGoodrich team, Samuel Hübinette is moving on to a new chapter in his illustrious career. Hübinette will strike out on his own in 2010, forming his own racing operation, Samuel Hübinette Racing (SHR). With support from sponsors including Dodge and BFGoodrich tires, Hübinette’s SHR organization will field a two-car team for the 2010 FD season.
“This is a new chapter for us,” said Hübinette. “I’m very excited to be back in competition and to take on a new role as team owner this year.”

The veteran Hübinette will drift his new Dodge Challenger, while FD newcomer Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard will take the wheel of the team’s familiar Dodge Viper SRT10.
“We’re looking at a strong year and a strong team for 2010,” said Hübinette. “We’re pleased to bring the Dodge Challenger into the series, while still showing off the capabilities of the Dodge Viper. I’m excited to see what ACP can accomplish.”
Comrie-Picard is an accomplished rally driver who won the 2009 North American Rally Championship.
Both Hübinette and Comrie-Picard will be competing on BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires.
Turning the wrenches for both Comrie-Picard’s SHR-Dodge/BFG Viper and Hübinette’s Challenger is Brad Manka. The SHR crew chief maintained Hübinette’s NuFormz Viper during the 2008 and 2009 FD campaigns.
Hübinette has competed in the FD Series under the NuFormz Racing banner since the series’ inception in 2004, capturing two championships in his first three seasons. Hübinette to date owns the most wins (nine) of any FD Series driver.
The two-time FD champion was dealt an enormous blow when NuFormz team owner Shaun Carlson passed away suddenly last October. Hübinette will carry on in memory of his departed friend and colleague.
“Shaun’s tragic death was a shock to us all,” said Hübinette. “We hope to do him proud out there this season.”

Back in US of A

January 12th, 2010

I am back in California after two month’s traveling. I spent 6 weeks working in Spain on the movie Knight and Day. I had a great time over there. In the middle of it all I went down to Chile for a drift demo and had a great time. We had so much fun for three days doing some really cool formation stuff. We were six guys from the FD series that went down there. Super drift was the name of the show with RPM Motorsports putting it on. Well done guys.
Now my focus is on getting my program all going for 2010. I got some amazing stuff in the works but I can’t unveil it yet. I look forward to share my future plans as soon as I can.

Merry Christmas

At Stinas parents house in Umeå, Sweden

After 6 weeks filming in Spain it feels great to be up in northern Sweden for a Christmas brake. I spent most of the time in Spain the last 6 weeks except one weekend when I went down to Chile for a drift demo. That was quite a trip for a few days but it all went awesome and the SuperDrift event was great.
After a few days in Stockholm I am now up in Umeå where both myself and Stina’s parents lives. Tomorrow we will travel further up north to spend Christmas at my brothers house. It has been dumping snow all over Sweden so it definitely looks like we all will get a white Christmas.
This is my favorite time of year when I can relax the most. We will do some skiing and ice skating and eat a lot of food. Sounds like a good balance to me.
A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you. I’ll see you next Year with a lot of new exiting things going on.

Here is an interview with Samuel Hubinette

December 12th, 2009

It’s good! Samuel Hubinette’s ability to so deftly control a vehicle is one of the reasons he is a highly sought-after stunt-car driver and the current Formula DRIFT points leader (and two-time champion). Antics like the above point-after kick are also what have earned the Swedish-born Samuel Hubinette the nickname “The Crazy Swede”. Chances are, even if you’ve never seen him on the track, you’ve probably seen him through his work in numerous car commercials, as well as in movies such as The Fast and the Furious. With that, another MyRide With.

MyRide: Tell us about your first car and a favorite memory of it.

Samuel Hubinette: I bought a car with another friend of mine. We bought it for really cheap before I even had a driver’s license. We bought it basically to go out and trash it on some gravel roads. We got it for like $100, and it was some old FWD beater, I don’t know, maybe a Toyota or something. We’re like, “Oh, that’s a good deal” and some old person was selling it to us. We took it to a gravel road and just trashed it. After a while we ended up sliding into a ditch and smacking a big rock, and the whole rear-end came off. That was my first car.

SuperDrift in Santiago, Chile

December 8th, 2009

I just finished up a Drift Demo in Santiago, Chile. We were 6 FormulaD drivers that got the invitation from RPM Motorsports to come and do drift demos for 3 days. It was myself, Tanner Foust, Chris Forsberg, Robbie Nishida, Ruji Miki and Stefan Verdier. It was nice to get away from the competition mode and just have a blast with the other guys doing demos!
RPM Motorsports had made a great effort to put on a professional and good show. The track that they put up on a parking lot worked out great and it was a good turn out of people through out the weekend.
It was great to be back in the BFG/Royal Purple Drift Viper and to get back in the sideways mode. Not that I have not been going sideways in Spain, but it was great to be back in the real drift car.
The weather was awesome due to the summer season in Chile. But unfortunately I didn’t get to see much more then the race track and the hotel because of my quick 3 days visit there. So I hope to get a tour of the country side next time I’ll go there.
Now I’m back working on the movie in Spain for another few weeks before heading up to Sweden for the holidays.

Check back for more photos/videos later!

Movie work and Drift demo in Chile

November 30th, 2009

After 5 weeks working on a movie in Spain I am now getting a brake for a few days to go down to Chile for a Drift demo. www.superdrift.cl
We are six drivers from the FD series that are going down.
I shipped (By air) my “BFGoodrich Royal Purple” Demo Viper down there a few weeks ago so it is ready to Rock.
We will be doing this on an airfield in central Santiago and they are expecting up 80.000 fans to come out.
I can’t wait to get down there and see the South America crowed.
After 3 days down there I will head back to Spain for another few weeks of movie work and then straight up to Sweden for Christmas.
That’s it for now.
